Coombe Dean Refectory

More Case Studies

Having dealt with Bartlett in the past, Coombe Dean School were well aware of our expertise when it came to designing and installing commercial kitchen equipment. However it was a totally different scenario with the refurbishment of the school's refectory, with the extensive amount of enabling works necessary before the installation of equipment could be considered.

However after a single phone call, Bartlett took care of all aspects of the work, having much experience of turn-key projects, Acting as principle contractor, Bartlett took care of everything, from liaising with the client’s agent, to dealing with all aspects of CDM regulations and managing the complete project. This included taking care of all works from the initial strip out, all building works, installing new UPVC doors, new ceilings, lighting design and installation, to wall finishes, floor finish, fire shutters, new electrical heating system, ventilation, decoration and finally the installation of all of the new catering equipment including a new cold room and freezer room.

For ease of use, Bartlett have designed the kitchen to operate around a central island cook suite incorporating the latest Falcon Eloma Genius combination ovens, six burner ranges, Infinity fryers and chrome griddle. All refrigeration equipment in the kitchen was selected from the Williams refrigeration range, utilising their latest cool smart energy saving controllers. To increase the capacity of ware-washing, Bartlett’s selected one of the latest double width Hobart AMXT low energy dishwashers which allow two baskets of plates to be washed at a time.

In addition to the main cook suite, areas around the perimeter of the kitchen were designed for dual use, firstly as prep areas for the kitchen and secondly for students to use to assist with their diplomas. Thought was also given to making the kitchen as user friendly as possible for disabled people, with such additions as height adjustable tabling and colour contrasting sockets and switches.

To assist with energy savings, Bartlett also supplied and installed the latest Genesis gas interlock systems to the extract canopy and fresh air supply; These systems control the fans speed based on the amount of gas being used and therefore save energy being wasted. They also reduce the level of fan noise experienced in the kitchen along with removing a lot of the problems experienced with cold draughts.

Lindsey James, Coombe Dean’s Business Manager comments “Coombe Dean is delighted with the transformation that Bartlett has brought about in our main school kitchen, from initial design through to installation and completion. Bartlett has provided not only a state of the art facility for our catering staff but have also incorporated student friendly space for the delivery of the new hospitality diplomas. The whole project has been a resounding success and has been welcomed by staff and students alike”
